It's the beginning of a new year!! 2012 is finally here. Most of us make New Year's resolutions and try to start the year out on a good foot. My resolution is to be healthy in every aspect of my life. Since the beginning of the year I have logged over 380 minutes of exercise. I have also looked into avenues to further my education. Abraham Lincoln said "Whatever you are be a good one." That is my goal for 2012, be the very best I can be.

Last Minute Halloween Desserts

Did I scare you! I'm sure I didn't, but I do work with a lady that if you sneak up behind her and just say that when she turns, she will scream! And of course we love to scare her. We have had several instances, while not trying to, that we got a scream out of her. And if you're not used to her screams, it can be quite startling!

I'm sure today lots of pranks will be pulled and lots of costume parties will occur. If you're running late and trying to figure out what dessert to bring instead of just the usual cupcakes or chips and dips, I've got a cute solution for you. Try making "Crescent Mummy Dogs". They are delicious and ever so cute.

"CRESCENT MUMMY DOGS"

Ingredients

1 (8 ounce) can Pillsbury® refrigerated crescent dinner rolls or Pillsbury® Crescent Recipe Creations™ refrigerated flaky dough sheet

2 1/2 slices American cheese slices, quartered

10 large hot dogs

Cooking spray

Mustard or ketchup, if desired

Directions

1.Heat oven to 375 degrees F.

2.Crescent Rolls: Unroll dough; separate at perforations creating 4 rectangles; press perforations to seal. Recipe Creations: Unroll dough; cut into 4 rectangles.

3.With knife or kitchen scissors, cut each rectangle lengthwise into 10 pieces, making a total of 40 pieces of dough. Slice cheese slices into quarters (1/2 slice cheese, cut in half).

4.Wrap 4 pieces of dough around each hot dog and 1/4 slice of cheese to look like "bandages," stretching dough slightly to completely cover hot dog. About 1/2 inch from one end of each hot dog, separate "bandages" so hot dog shows through for "face." On ungreased large cookie sheet, place wrapped hot dogs (cheese side down); spray dough lightly with cooking spray.

5.Bake 13 to 17 minutes or until dough is light golden brown and hot dogs are hot. With mustard, draw features on 'face.'

All of us at one time or another have taken a family vacation and have booked the best looking hotel for our lodging. Only to arrive and find that the accommodations look nothing like the pictures we viewed upon booking. Being raised in the southern parts of Louisiana, I would classify Gumbo as an essential for survival. Coming home from a long day at work to the aroma of spicy gumbo was just comfort for the body and soul. I have always heard of comfort foods, but never realized what that was until I moved away from Louisiana to a place in our country that had never heard of gumbo, much less survived on it. While setting up my calendar for January, I found so many interesting things to do in the month of January in Northwest Florida. This next week offers so many exciting venues to choose from. On the 14th, the 30A Songwriters Festival will convene. The next day, Chef Ruston Johnson & Sous Chef Scott Miller will be hosting their Annual Winter Cooking Class at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. Also on the 15th, The North West Florida Ballet will sponsor the First Annual New Year's Resolution 5K Run/Walk. Then on the 16th, Florida Dream Weddings will host the 8th Annual Gulf Coast Bridal Faire. So much activity packed into one weekend, and I have only mentioned a few venues that the Destin area has to offer. Fourth Of July In Seaside Florida

We went to enjoy the fireworks at such a beautiful town that is only known because of the famous movie, Truman Show. This town was bustling with vacationers riding their bikes with their little ones from their vacation home to the park where they unfolded their beach chairs or laying out their blankets, grabbed some bar-b-que from the famous "Trailer" and cotton candy for the kids. The kids were everywhere from 4 yrs old to 18yrs old walking on their own throughout this quaint town. Their is an unspoken code here, LOOK AFTER EVERYONE'S CHILDREN. Refreshing isn't it.

While we were eating this fabulous meal at "The Great Southern Cafe"- macaroni and cheese with Shrimp and Gorgonzola cheese is a local favorite and the famous Key Lime Pie with meringue top, we were enjoying an hour of non-stop fabulous displays of color in the sky and all the OOHS and AHHHS from the vacationers. Kids had their red,white and blue outfits- girls with the cute dresses and white sandals and boys had their shorts and red or blue polos on. I enjoyed the fashion show.

This is what life is about---seeing so many vacationers that look forward to their one week a year with all their family together. Building on their memory bank.

Oh My, What a Blessing to see our Destin and Rosemary Beaches so pristine and waters beautiful for our vacationers. As you can see by the pictures just sent to us from their stay at Gorgeous Ocean Paradise Home here in Destin Florida while they were at the Pool on the Top of the Home, so many families are enjoying their time together and creating many memories.

An Amazing Home everyone needs to vacation at least once. The first picture is the public beach in front of Pompano Joe's Restaurant and the 2nd picture is of the public beach by Crab Trap Restaurant.

Fourth of July Weekend Extravaganza at HarborWalk Village
End Date: July 4; Duration: 4 Days
HarborWalk Village on Destin Harbor is holding a 4th of July Extravaganza featuring three nights of firworks and live music. Starting Thursday at 7pm is the Hometown Hero Celebration with live entertainment, mini air show and fireworks at 8:30pm. Friday is a Family Fun Fest with crafts for kids, water slides, Rock Star Kareoke, JD's Funhouse and more. Saturday includes a free Rock the Docks concert at 7pm by Lektric Mullet and Fireworks Display at 8:30pm. Sunday offers a special Rock the Docks concert by Reggie & Co and fireworks at 8:30pm. There is free parking available at the HarborWalk Village.

Destin Commons is having a celebration 7-9 p.m. Saturday featuring live music by The Trees, activities by Bass Pro Shops and face-painting by Abrakadoodle.

A free fireworks show is scheduled for 9 p.m.

If You have a Beachfront Home, you will be able to see the fireworks while sitting on your balcony with your group. If you are not here in Destin, get in your car and come visit. Check out the website to get a place to stay.

Okay All Our Vacationers that are with us this weekend. Here is a wonderful concert for you.

Join Kenny Loggins & the Doobie Brothers at Okaloosa Island, Ft. Walton Beach, FL!

Rock the Beach Sunday, June 27th at 5pm! Donations will be accepted at the concert to benefit those impacted by the oil spill.

In an effort to draw crowds to Okaloosa County beaches, the Emerald Coast Convention & Visitors Bureau kicks off a free concert series this Sunday called "Rock the Beach" on the beach adjacent the Boardwalk on Okaloosa Island!! The Doobie Brothers were signed on last week and Kenny Loggins just added last night!!

This is a great way to support the local residents who depend on tourism to support their businesses and families. Donations will be accepted at the concert to benefit those impacted by the oil spill.

What a beautiful Father's Day spent by our vacationers on the beach today. And the weather was perfect...Sunshine and seeing all of you having fun, yes I was watching all the beautiful moments from afar. We are so glad everyone is having a great beginning of the week's vacation.

Go see LeCirqueDestin now playing at the Grand Boulevard Shops. I am attaching the link or you can visit Kilwins Ice Cream shop there for their 3rd year anniversary celebration this week. They now have a big cotton and candy machine as well. It is summer time. Tell your friends to get down here to enjoy the beach.
